Nieves R. Confesor (NRC) is the Executive Director of the AIM - TeaM Energy Center for Bridging Societal Divides. Professor Nieves R. Confesor is a core faculty member of the Center for Development Management (CDM), where she was OIC-Associate Dean for the Masters in Development (MDM) Program from September 2008-August 2009. Aside from teaching at the CDM, she also handles courses in the Master in Management (MM) Program of the W. SyCip Graduate School of Business (WSGSB), as well as in the Executive Master in Business Administration (EMBA) and short programs of the Executive Education and Lifelong Learning Center (EXCELL). She served as Dean of the Institute from 2003-2005.
In 2005, she was appointed member, and later, Chairperson of the Philippine Government Panel in the negotiations with the Communist Party of the Philippines-National Democratic Front-New People’s Army (CPP-NDF-NPA). Before this, she was in the public service and served as Secretary of Labor and Employment during the administration of President Corazon Aquino and the Presidential Adviser on Human Resource Development and International Labor Affairs to President Fidel Ramos, with the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. In 1992, in recognition of her excellent service in government, she was named one of the Ten Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS).
She has served as external collaborator, adviser, and consultant to the World Bank, the ILO, the ASEAN Secretariat, and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and has provided consulting services to various Philippine and foreign companies and organizations. She has also worked as Director/Trustee of various boards of both private and public companies, non-government organizations.
NRC's areas of teaching and research include: strategic negotiations and conflict management; public policy; leadership and management of change; labor and employment; labor administration; and public sector governance. She holds a Master in Public Policy from the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government 1980 and Master in Business Administration from the Ateneo de Manila University Graduate School of Business 1981. She also took special courses on labor and employment, women in politics, and international economics. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in Literary Studies (Magna Cum Laude and Class Valedictorian) at Maryknoll College in 1971.
